"#Ni una menos (Not one woman less), is a Latin American feminist movement born in Argentina, fighting violence against women. The movement has spread to other Latin American countries reaching Europe.
In Italy, since the beginning of 2021, more than 40 women have already been killed in the private sphere of their homes, in a "global femicide pandemic" that is partly obscured by COVID-19. In many countries in Europe the situation is even worst.
My work is inspired by Elina Chauvet's performance that became a symbol of protest. She says "The shoes (red) represent absence, they visualise absence...Red stands for blood shed, but it is also a work that speaks of love". It is a silver fabric charm dropped into red varnish. I transform an existing object, used as an adorn accessory on a teenager arm, giving it a value of mourning and resistance.
I took the photo complementing my work #NiUnaMenos on the 25th of March 2021 during the demonstration in Rome demanding action to prevent and fight gender-based violence."
